Becoming a Mental Health Nurse

Cath Melia somewhere in 1982 studied how student nurses feel about becoming nurses. It became a prominent reference in understanding how would be nurses experience the process of becoming a nurse. Studies have also been conducted on would be Mental Health or Psychiatric Nurses by Montgomery sometime in the 1990's (will need to check the reference). However it would be interesting to learn how you feel about becoming one yourself.

Questions for you to ponder when considering the above;
  1. What makes you choose Mental Health Nursing?
  2. What do you learn to become a Mental Health Nurse?
  3. How do you think the programme has prepared you to become a capable / competent Mental Health Nurse?
  4. What experience you get out of working with the experts in mental health?
  5. How do you imagine you career as a Mental Health Nurse would be?
